In my dream I snuck into your orange cinder block stay smoke motel room when you were not there. I heard your lock behind me just as I found what I had come in there looking for. I had my hands on it. I thought I woke myself up— after you saw me, but before you had a chance to say anything you may have wanted to; before i knew if you were going to be awful or sweet. In which we try to create a space where we needn’t rely on the misleading, dated language of the Weed Bro or the manipulative imagery of the #WeedWomen to just have an honest conversation about this wild, rapidly expanding, world of cannabis.
We strive to honor and provide space to share the voices and imagery of the counterculture movements that have come before us— those that used their lives as attempts to create a better world— rather than exploiting them to use as a tactic for personal profit. We will not participate in subverting the entire core of their meaning by peddling this as a means for fraudulent emotional control of consumers looking to support a change in the world, yet instead contributing to the corporatization of the cannabis industry and furthering the deeply unsettling manipulations of capitalism. We share from these movements because our business, and our decisions we make from it as a platform, align with the vision these predecessors hoped our world would one day embrace. We have no interest in selling that or pandering it to Venture Capital firms just as a means of survival in this industry.
